Molly Bechtel, Assistant Professor
PI Bechtel is interested in disease ecology and how it applies to wildlife ecology. Currently research includes Connecting field ecology, host health, microbiomes, and pathogen surveillance across Mojave and Sonoran Desert systems. This includes studying how environmental change shapes the distribution and transmission of ranavirus, Bd, and other wildlife pathogens and investigating ticks, relapsing-fever group Borrelia, wildlife hosts, and human exposure through a One Health lens. In her free time she also enjoys hikes with her dogs and husband, backpacking, climbing, yoga and enjoying everything Arizona has to offer. |

Jenna Zarlingo, Masters Student
Jenna is a second year master's studying amphibians at a site in northern New Mexico. Her research addresses amphibian habitat suitability, disease dynamics, and remote sensing spatial analysis. She does monthly field work in New Mexico involving habitat surveys, amphibians capture, and water sample collection. Her lab work includes DNA extractions and qPCR molecular assays to detect Boreal toad, Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd) and Ranavirus environmental DNA in water samples. email: [email protected] |
